Immunizations

Immunizations, also known as vaccines, introduce a child’s immune system to a specific type of bacteria or virus. Each immunization mimics an infection to teach your child’s immune system how to respond, triggering the production of cells that will be able to recognize and fight these harmful particles in the future. This can protect them from getting seriously ill if or when they are eventually exposed to things like chickenpox.

Especially when you are facing an appointment where your baby will receive three or four shots at a time, immunizations can be upsetting and hard to understand. However, they serve a real purpose and are strongly recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in protecting your child from dangerous diseases.  

The main reason immunizations are so important is because they have been proven to be effective. Those three or four shots you face in the pediatric office can protect your baby from 14 different infections, all of which can seriously impact or endanger your baby’s health. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has developed a recommended schedule of vaccines to most effectively boost your child’s resistance to disease without overloading their immune system, so you can rest assured that following that schedule and making regular appointments with the Pediatric Associates of Northern Colorado is likely to be the best possible choice for your child’s health and safety.
